The BD FACS Aria Fusion (BD FACS Aria III) is a multicolor cell sorter/flow cytometer and represents the state of the art in cell sorting. The instrument is configured with a violet laser (405 nm 50 mW for detecting dead/live cells, DAPI-stained DNA, and other fluorescence dyes at a violet range), a blue laser (488 nm 20 mW for detecting a wide range of fluorescence dyes such as FITC, Alex 488, GFP, etc), and a red laser (633 nm 18 mW for detecting a wide range of fluorescence dyes such as PE, mCherry, Cy5.5, etc). It can detect 5 colors from the blue laser, 2 colors from the red laser, and 2 colors from the violet laser for a total of 9 fluorescent colors simultaneously (Pacific Blue, AmCyan, FITC, PE, PETexasRed, PerCP-Cy5.5, PE-Cy7, APC and APC-Cy7), making its detectable wavelength ranging from 421 to 780 nm. Up to 4 different types of cells can be sorted simultaneously to multiple tubes. An automated cell deposition unit (ACDU) can accommodate cell sorting to 6, 24, 48, 96, and 384-well plates. The instrument is housed in an integrated Class II biosafety cabinet for sorting/analyzing of biohazardous samples. In addition, a temperature control unit that can control the temperature of the sorting chamber from 4 °C to 42 °C improves cell survival rate during operation.
